New Moon In Aslesha
sNew Moon August 4, 2024
The Moon is exalted in Cancer when he (all planets are masculine in the Vedic system of Jyotisha) expresses new beginnings for the next cycle. The Moon represents the Mother, the emotions and the deep psyche and he rules the moving water sign of Cancer. His issue here is security as reflected by the shell of the crab which protects the soft underbelly of vulnerability. The lesson is to honor feelings, nurture self and others and establish healthy boundaries.
The more nuanced insight into the Moon’s position is that he will be in the star constellation known as Aslesha, the coiled one. Aslesha consists of 6 stars in Hydra that form a spiral. The deity that embodies the energy of Aslesha are the Nagas or deep, mysterious serpents. This is the energy of what lies underneath and as such represents the ability of Aslesha to access intuition, psychic ability, direct knowing, 6th sense and connection to the subtle or astral body that is the level of the chakras, prana and nadis or flowing rivers of energy.
The symbol is the caduceus used by the medical system which also represents the yogic nadis of Pingala(solar) and Inda (Lunar). These are subtle channels that entwine their way up the central energetic axis of the body that corresponds to the spine, sushumna.
People born in this constellation are sensual movers, healers, psychics and counselors. As children they can feel they have “no skin” and take responsibility for any suffering around them.
The ruler of Aslesha is Mercury, who governs all forms of communication and healing. He allows Aslesha to bring forward insights gained from the instinctual level and communicate them through speech, writing art, and any form of media. Mercury also helps Aslesha bring structure to their immense sensitivity.
The power or shakti of Aslesha is to heal through inflicting poison, such as in homeopathy and the message of “what doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.”
Because this is the energy that initiates a new phase of the waxing Moon we draw upon the message of Aslesha to align our sam kalpa or heartfelt intention with honoring our deepest feelings and allow the primal power represented by the serpent to rise within us and guide us intuitively toward our destiny. Take time to listen to silence and connect with the earth and the Mother. Ask her for guidance and trust the messages that come. On the full Moon we can look back and ascertain how the lessons of Aslesha have guided us through the sacred cycle.
